Trip update - Alma NE

End of day 1 - Alma NE. Rode 340 miles which is a kinda light day for distance, but I need to stop overnight in Cheyenne, WY and Alma is about halfway there. Great day to ride if it is pretty boring countryside. Started off this morning with a clear blue sky and 75 degrees, later warmed up to 83 or 85. It was interesting to watch the elevation reading on the GPS steadily climb as I rode west across NE. When I got off I-29 I was about 900 feet ASL. I watched it climb over the next couple hundred miles to now in Alma where it is about 2000 feel ASL.

I am camping next to the Harlan County Lake here, very nice treed setting.

When I registered at the state park I pulled into my grassy campsite and saw this in the gravel drive in front of me.

I got off and checked him out but I heard no rattle so I wasn't too worried. I got a branch and poked him a little. He coiled up and looked menacing but didn't try to bite the stick so I backed away and let him slither off. I knew there was a reason I always put up a tent even when it is warm and nice out...

Fairly uneventful day, can't wait for the scenery to improve in Wyoming and points west.

Here is a map of my route today.
