Trip to Redmond - Crater Lake

On Thursday, July 15, I left the RV park in Cave Junction and continued north on highway 199. I went thru Grant's Pass and down I-5 a little, then continued north on 234 up to Shady Cove where I stopped for gas and a coffee from a roadside espresso hut.

Here is a map of my ride for the day.

I then got on 62 which became (or is) the Crater Lake Highway as it winds thru the Rogue River National Forest. Very tall pine forest, very cool fresh air.  There is a point where the highway crosses the Rogue River which at that point is only 20 feet or so across, but is a roaring mountain river. Here are a few pics and video.

After I stopped at the Rogue River it was another 20 miles or so up to Crater Lake. There it was hot (low 90s) with lots of motorcycles. The view was incredible! The distances and scale of the lake are difficult to put into perspective. Here are a few pics.

If you click to see the full size pic, that little speck in the lower left is a 50 passenger sightseeing ship.

So after I left Crater Lake I continued on up to Bend and Redmond back to the rally site. Once I was there I was ready for a break from riding. The next day (Friday) I didn't ride at all and just walked around the rally grounds going to some seminars, look at all the vendors, and walking around taking pics of various bikes and their crazy decals.
